It gave a clear distinction between the competing ideas. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The only useful aspect of the concept of EI, as I see it, is to make psychological ideas more accessible to people who have been brainwashed to believe that psychology is scary or only for really crazy people.  It&amp;#39;s like giving someone who teaches them life skills a professional title that includes the word &amp;quot;coach&amp;quot;. I think that just as pschologists diagnos so that they may understand their patient and how to work with them, the idea of emotional intelligence helps the laymen to understand themselves and how they can live at their personal potential! ...
